Family Resource Programs

Child Care Resource Centres provide a range of support services to caregivers of young children. Caregivers include people caring for their own children or a small group of children, or people affiliated with a licensed Private Home Day Care. The three main objectives of Child Care Resource Centres are:

  1. to enhance the quality of care provided in unlicensed Child Care arrangements;
  2. to provide information necessary for parents and other caregivers to make informed choices about Child Care arrangements and options; and
  3. to enhance interaction between children and their parents, and other caregivers.

Support services include Drop-In programs, Resource Libraries, Community Information Centres, Training opportunities, provision of Child Care, Child Care listings, Playgroups, Toy Lending Libraries, Warmlines for children at home alone, and Educational Workshops. Resource Centres can also include Parenting Programs and other Programs for teen parents participating in the Learning, Earning & Parenting (LEAP) Program.

In April of 2003 Resource Centres became part of the Ontario Early Years Centre; core services of the Early Years are:

  1. Early learning services for children
  2. Resources and training
  3. Pre- and post-natal resources
  4. Information about early years services
  5. Outreach services
  6. A speakers bureau
  7. Early Literacy Specialists; and,..
  8. Data gathering and analysis services.
